Yanagawa is famous for its canals that reach a total length of over 470 km (approximately 290 miles). Their surface represents over 12% of the town. These water paths go back to the Yayoi period. Yanagawa is also famous for the poet Hakushu Kitahara (1885-1942). After having taken a boat ride on the canal in a donkobune, you can sample eel (unagi), the local delicacy.
