Le Mount Aso is an active volcano located in the northwest of the Kumamoto region. In the centre, you will find "Aso Gogaku", central peaks made of andesite, which is composed of Mounts Taka, Naka, Neko, Eboshi and Kishima. Mount Naka’s wide crater is still active. Mount Naka is the highest summit at 1,592 m (about 5,223 feet) and has many rock climbing areas that are rare in Kyushu.
